Fiji issues nice commemorative banknote

The Reserve Bank of Fiji has issued a commemorative 50-dollar note on 8 October 2020 to commemmorate Fiji’s 50th anniversary of independence.

The  note is made of ploymer and to be honest: this is one of the most fun notes I've seen issued in a long time! I really like the design as well, which is different from the usual banknote designs.

Uruguay issues two polymer 20- and 50-peso notes

The Banco Central del Uruguay has issued two updated versions of its 20- and 50-peso notes. The design looks a lot like the issues from 2017 but the new notes are made of polymer and look pretty good to be honest!

One little pet peeve though: on the back of the 50-peso note, the man in the tranparent window looks in the 'wrong' direction in my opinion. I think it would have been nicer if he looked towards the note, instead of 'away' from the note.

Indonesia celebrates 75 years of independence

The Bank Indonesia has issued a new 75,000-rupiah banknote commemorating 75 years of independence. Independence from my own country, The Netherlands, that is. So this banknote has more meaning to me than other commemorative notes.

And a bonus: the note looks great!

Poland announces 20-zlotych commemorative note

The Narodowi Bank Polski (National Bank of Poland) will start selling a new 20-zlotych commemorative note from 11 August 2020. The note commemorates the Battle of Warsaw. The Battle of Warsaw was a decisive episode of the war against the Bolsheviks.

The front of the banknote depicts Józef Pilsudski. The skyline of Warsaw is visible in the background. The back of the note presents the central fragment of Jerzy Kossak’s painting "The Miracle on the Vistula" under the Polish national colours. It depicts a symbolic scene of chaplain Ignacy Skorupka leading soldiers of the volunteer military formations to attack.

To be honest, I think the design is pretty ugly and the note as a whole a monstrosity. But that's just my opinion.

Two banks in Northern Ireland introduce new 20's

Two Northern Ireland banks have announced two new polymer 20-pound notes. The Danske Bank and Bank of Ireland have both issued press releases.

The Bank of Ireland states: "The new £20 note will retain the iconic image of The Old Bushmills Distillery, in County Antrim, the world’s oldest licensed whiskey distillery.

The note will also include enhanced security features, including a holographic stripe and a clear window which can be seen from both the front and back of the note. As part of the security feature, the note will also include a shiny, iridescent area of ink which changes colour as you tilt it.

In addition to security elements, the £20 polymer note will incorporate a tactile feature with three arrangements of four dots in a square formation, enabling physical identification for the visually impaired.

The £20 polymer note features Bank of Ireland Group Chief Executive Officer Francesca McDonagh as the signatory."

About the Danske Bank 20-pound notes: "The introduction of the new £20 polymer note on July 20, is a natural follow on from the £10 polymer note Danske Bank launched in February 2019.

It will be slightly smaller than the paper version but will have a similar design and will still feature a portrait of Co Down born inventor Harry Ferguson.

There will be subtle colour and feature upgrades including a see-through section, holographic foil and a tactile feature to help blind and partially-sighted people identify the value."
