The Banco Central de Bolivia has introduced the first banknote of the new family of notes on 10 April 2018 (for some reason I completely forgot to write about this).
On the front we see: José Santos Vargas, "El Tambor Vargas", a guerrilla who fought in the War of Independence; Apiaguaiki Tüpa, leader of the Guarani who fought against the subjugation of the lands of his people and Eustaquio Méndez, "El Moto Méndez", who also fought in the struggle for the independence of Bolivia.
Additionally, we see Isla del Pescado, located in the Salar de Uyuni, a place that from a distance resembles the figure of a fish; and the Cavern of Umajalanta, located in Torotoro, which is the most extensive and deep of Bolivia.
Representing the fauna and flora of Boliovia we see images of the Giant Hummingbird, bird of the Andean region
that is characterized by its large size, up to 22 centimeters; and the Puya Raimondi, a plant that exceeds ten meters in height and that blooms only once every 80 years, before dying.
In three months the 20-bolivianos note will follow and so on until all the notes have been issued. The new notes are printed by Oberthur Fiduciare SAS who won the tender last year.
The Central Bank of the Solomon Islands has announced that it will issue a new commemorative banknote of 40 dollars in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the country's independence. Together with the new banknote a 2-dollar coin will be issued.
The new note is expected by July 2018 (the country received its independence on 7 July 1978).
The National Bank of Cambodia has issued a new banknote of 20,000 rials at the occasion of the 65th birthday of the King Norodom Sihamoni.
It measures 155 x 72 mm, the dominant colors are light pink, dark pink and brown. On the front it shows the King . The back shows the Banteay Srei Temple in Siem Reap province.
The Central Bank of Nepal (Nepal Rastra Bank, NRB) has issued a new 500-rupees note on 25 April 2018.
The front of the note shows the Mount Everest (Chomolungma) left and a watermark of the national flower ‘Rhododendron’ on the right side. There is a signature of Governor Dr. Chiranjibi Nepal in the lower part of the note, and there is date mentioned as V.S.2073 in Nepali in the border.
The back of the note shows a tiger and the Bank logo, the text NEPAL RASTRA BANK and RUPEES FIVE HUNDRED written in English. We can also see the date 2016 A.D. A total of 180 million notes have been printed by Perum Peruri from Indonesia.
The King of Swaziland, Mswati III, has decided to rename the country to eSwatini. The name means: "land of the Swazis". One of the reasons for this move is that the King thinks people confuse his country with Switzerland...
Right. So he changed it to a name which makes people think it's an online country...
It's not yet clear if this means that the banknotes will also get a reprint with the new name on it.
The Narodne Banka na Republika Makedonia (National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia) will issue two new polymer notes of 10- and 50-denari from 15 May 2018.
The current paper notes of the same denominations will cease to be legal tender from 15 May and can be exchanged at any commercial bank until 15 May 2019.
On 2 May 2015 banknotes of 100-denari will also be issued with the date "May 2018" on it. This will most likely be a modified type of the current note and not a new note.
The Banco Central de Bolivia has announced that the first note of the new family of banknotes will be issued in April 2018. The first note will be the 10 bolivianos which will be blue. On the front we will see: Gregoria Apaza, Esteban Arze and Fuerte Samaipata. And on the back: a Lucachi monkey, the Arco Iris waterfall and a Parajubaea torallyi palm.
Three months later the 20-bolivianos note will follow and so on until all the notes have been issued. The new notes will be printed by Oberthur Fiduciare SAS who won the tender last year.
Update: here are the pictures of the new 10-bolivianos note.
The Czech National Bank has held a competition for the design of the new commemorative 100-korun banknote which should be issued in 2019. The note commemorates the founding of Czechoslovakia in 1919 and the introduction of the korun as the national currency.
All in all 15 artists, who submitted a total of 17 graphic designs, participated in the competition. The first prize and recommendation for realization was won by designer Eva Hašková for an excellent artistic level, mastering the specifics of the banknotes, a concise portrait and the beautiful harmony of both sides of the proposed note. The bank’s board confirmed on 1 March 2018 the decision to use this design in the note to be issued next year.
I think they chose wisely.
The Banco Central de Reserva del Perú has issued a new 20-soles banknote. It looks similar to the existing 20-nuevos soles but it now has the new currency name on it.
In December 2015 the Congress of Peru decided to change the name of the national currency from "nuevo sol" to just "sol". The nuevo sol was the new name for the currency from 1 July 1991 when it replaced the old "inti". Both the old and new version of the banknote will co-circulate.
The Swiss National Bank (SNB) has won the Banknote of the Year Award 2017 for the second time in a row. The 10-francs note has been announced as the winner of the annual competition by the IBNS.
"In the closest vote ever the Swiss 10 Franc polymer/hybrid note narrowly edged out runners-up from the Royal Bank of Scotland (£10 with female scientist), Canada ($10 with 4 politicians and regions), Fiji (unique $7 featuring their first Olympic gold medal and rugby “7’s” team), Norway (100 Kroner Viking long ship), and Djibouti (40 Franc whale shark). This is the fourth consecutive hybrid / polymer note to win the coveted IBNS Bank Note of the Year Award.
The Switzerland 10 Franc note is part of the first new design the Swiss National Bank has released in 20 years. Printed by Orell Fussli Security Printing Ltd. in Zurich, all notes from the new 9th series feature national experiences and abstract themes. Incorporating the latest in technological security standards and using three layer substrate Durasafe®, this gorgeous yellow vertical banknote depicts human hands conducting an orchestra with a globe showing time zones and the punctual Swiss rail system."
The Bangladesh Bank has introduced a new banknote of 70 taka to commemorate the nation's development.
The front of the note shows the portrait of the Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the National Martyrs' Memorial, the Betbunia Satellite Center and the map of Bangladesh. The Central Bank of Venezuela will issue a new family of banknotes with a new name for its currency. The new currency will be called "bolívar soberano" equal to 1,000 bolívares fuertes.
The new series will be issued from 4 June 2018 and will have denominations of 2-, 5-, 10-, 20-, 50-, 100-, 200- and 500-bolívares soberanos. The new name of the currency doesn't appear on the new banknotes.
Venezuela, potentially one of the richest countries in the world, is completely bankrupt due to a corrupt government, bad economic policy and the constant blaming of other countries for its own problems. New banknotes and a new currency won't change any of their problems of course but hey: something new for us collectors.
The Central Bank of Lebanon (BDL) will soon issue improved banknotes of 100,000 livres with a wider security thread in three segments and reveals the initials of the BDL if you hold against the light.
The original note was issued from 1 January 2017 and the improved note will be issued from 10 April 2018.
The Swiss National Bank (SNB) has announced when the new 200-francs note will be issued. In the press release it says: "With the 50-franc, 20-franc and 10-franc notes now issued, the next denomination in the new series to be released will be the 200-franc note. It will be presented on 15 August and will enter circulation on 22 August 2018. The key motif of the 200-franc note – matter – showcases Switzerland’s scientific expertise."
I'm very curious about the design of the note because so far the new series has been beautiful in my opinion.
The Bank of Guatemala is taking a reverse route when it comes to polymer notes compared to many other countries. Their current 5-quetzales note (introduced in 2008) is made of polymer but now they've announced the future notes will made from cotton again. The change will be made gradually in the next two years.
The design of the new cotton fiver will probably be more or less the same and the two notes can be used simultaneously.
