I first wrote about the new 200- and 2,000-denar banknotes in 2014 but the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia is now finally ready to issue these banknotes to the public. The new banknotes will be issued on 15 December 2016.
From the original press release:
"Leitmotif of the obverse of the conceptual, and art and graphic design of the 200 denar banknote is the relief with a presentation of the 41st Psalm of David from the Old Testament, which belongs to the infamous terracotta icons from Vinica, one of the most important early medieval archaeological discoveries on the territory of the Republic of Macedonia. On the same side, in the left center field, there is a presentation of an early medieval bow bronze fibula from the beginning of the VII century, found near Prilep. The reverse of the banknote contains a presentation of an architectural and art element of the frontal facade of the "Colorful (Aladzha) Mosque" in Tetovo, one of the most attractive monuments of architecture and art from the Ottoman period in the Republic of Macedonia, complemented by floral elements taken from the decoration of the marble floor tiles of the famous "Isaac Mosque" in Bitola, built at the beginning of the XVI century.
Leitmotif of the obverse of the conceptual, and art and graphic design of the 2000 denar banknote is the presentation of Macedonian bridal costume from Prilep Field, as an impressive reflection of the richness of the folklore heritage of the Republic of Macedonia. On the same side, in the left center field, there is a presentation of a pendant in the form of a poppy head, which was discovered in Suva Reka, Gevgelia. It is an artifact dated to the VII century BC and belongs to the well-known group of Paionian-Macedonian bronzes. The reverse of the banknote contains a presentation of the decoration of the inside of a gilded vessel, which originates from the XVI century and whose central field shows two affronted peacocks near the "source of life" surrounded by lavish floral decoration."
I found two links to some really nice background articles on the design process of the two new RBS banknotes from Scotland on the IBNS forum. It provides a very entertaining look behind the scenes.

According to a press release by the Central Bank of Seychelles the island nation is planning to issue new banknotes in December 2016. The new banknote family will have as its theme "Seychelles' Unique Biodiversity – the backbone of our economy". The new series will have different sized paper banknotes of 500-, 100-, 50- and 25-rupees. The current series of banknotes will remain legal tender until further notice.
Aesthetically I would have preferred some more color differentiation in the banknotes. The images look very nice but it also looks like they only had one color crayon per banknote.
According to MRI Bankers' Guide the Central Bank of Seychelles is set to issue a commemorative 10-rupees note in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the independence of the island nation in the Indian Ocean.
The picture of the new notes show the current 10-rupees note with a stamp on it. The official date of independence is 29 June 1976 and that date has come and gone. One would expect the note to be issued at least in 2016 so we'll have to wait and see.
The Reserve Bank of India is supposedly ready to issue banknotes of 2,000 rupees, the International Business Times reports. This would top the current highest denomination of 1,000 rupees.
The new notes are already printed at the Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India located in Mysuru, according to the news article. Unfortunately there is no date mentioned when these notes could be issued.
The website DeInmediato reports that the Central Bank of Venezuela has ordered the printing of banknotes of 5,000, 10,000 and 20,000 bolivares. Because of the massive inflation in Venezuela (700% in 2016 according to the IMF) the people in Venezula are in demand of much higher denominations than currently available (the highest denomination is a 100-bolivares note at this moment).
There have been rumours of higher denominations before so we'll have to wait if these new rumours prove to be true. The new notes should be available at the end of 2016.
Update 1 December 2016: new rumours from Bloomberg/Quint predict new notes of 500- and 5,000-bolivares to be issued mid-January and new denominations of 1,000-, 2,000-, 10,000- and 20,000-bolivares in the first half of 2017. We'll see...
The Banco de la República in Colombia has announced that the new 5,000-pesos note will be issued on 9 November 2016. This will be the 4th banknote of the new series and depicts poet José Asunción Silva, with a view of the "páramos colombianos," an eco-system on the back.
The still to-be-issued 2,000- and 10,000-pesos notes of the new series are also expected to be issued this quarter.
The National Bank of Argentina has issued the new 200-pesos note on 26 October 2016. The note is the second in the new series after the introduction of the 500-pesos note on 29 june 2016.
The blue 200-pesos note shows a Southern Right whale, the Argentine Sea, Antarctica and the South Atlantic Islands.
Im my humble opinion this is one of the most beautiful series being issued right now.
Yes, another item regarding Thailand... People in Thailand have been warned not to buy 'golden commemorative notes' which are being sold at the Grand Palace, where the late King Bhumibol is lying in state.
Vendors have been passing these notes as real commemorative notes which supposedly have been issued after the King's death. People are warned however not to buy them because they are forgeries.
The design looks like a 1,000-bath note issued in 2005 (P115).
The Bank of Thailand has announced in the wake of the King's dead that it will continue issuing banknotes with the image of King Bhumibol on the front. This is good news for the Thai because there were concerns that the current banknotes would become obsolete after the King's passing.
There is also some other (good) news for us collectors because the note you knew would be issued is coming: a new commemorative banknote celebrating the late King's 7th cycle birthday on 25 October 2016. A total of 200,000-300,000 notes will be issued and the 100-baht note will come with a pamphlet. The new notes will be sold for 200 baht.
Sad news for the Thai: today the royal palace has announced that King Bhumibol or Rama IX has died at the age of 88. The late king had an almsot divine status in Thailand and was the subject of many beautiful (commemorative) banknotes the past few years. It is expected that his son Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn will succeed him.
Below the back of the beautiful 16-baht note with images from the late king's life.

On 4 October 2016 the Bank of Scotland has introduced (pdf) a new polymer note of 5 pound. A little smaller than the existing 5-pound notes, the new notes will reuse the existing design, with on the front the portrait of Sir Walter Scott. A new security feature has been introduced in the form of a transparent window which changes color as the note is moved and tilted. The back of the note shows the Brig O'Doon.
The Central Bank of Russia has announced the winners of the public poll it conducted to pick the themes for the new 200- and 2,000-ruble banknotes. The public has chosen for the themes of Sevastopol and Kazan to be on the two new banknotes which will be issued in 2017.
Sevastopol has the Monument to the Scuttled Ships and Chersonesus as its local sights. For Kazan it's the Kremlin and the Kazan Federal University.
The Central Bank of Liberia has released a statement on 6 October 2016 announcing the introduction of the new family of banknotes. This new series was first announced in July 2016 and includes a new 500-dollar denomination. Both the old and new denominations of the Liberian banknotes will circulate simultaneously with equal monetary value.
From the statement: "This new series includes, among others, the unifying nature of the existing Liberian banknotes, and as such, has maintained all previous portraits. The CBL has also reinforced the security features in the new series, which are both visible and invisible. In addition, the CBL has ensured that the new series is printed on a higher quality substrate to guarantee longevity and reduce porosity."
